Elizabeth Hanvey

Counselor

    Elizabeth (Beth) Hanvey holds a Master of Social work and is fully licensed in the state of Michigan. She is also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). She has been in the field of social work providing counseling for individuals, couples, and groups for over 20 years.  She obtained most of her experience working in the Community Mental Health setting, with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  She is passionate about evidence-based practices and is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (for trauma), EMDR, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy.   

    Beth attended Houghton College in New York for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in Psychology and Biology. She obtained her Master of Social Work (MSW) at MIchigan State University.  She began her career working for Catholic Social Services implementing child welfare programs.  She has spent the last seventeen years at CMH as a therapist, and more recently, a clinical supervisor.

    She is a pastor's kid, and her faith in Christ shapes all that she does. She has been married for 31 years and has two adult children, and one lively Portuguese Water Dog. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors: hiking and cycling, and walking her dog. She has completed several triathlons.  She enjoys time with her family and volunteering with her church.  

    Beth has a passion for helping people overcome obstacles and barriers that are preventing them from living the life they desire. She will help you to understand yourself, your behavior, and your past experience, in order to allow you to heal and move forward. She offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your concerns to lead to lasting change.
